Desi Iliad

So I've gone and dropped out of the [livejournal.com profile] aubigbang challenge. It saddens me, but meh. This doesn't mean I'm dropping the story, it does, however, mean I can snippet at people who aren't my long-sufering beta [livejournal.com profile] theotherrimi , and/or [livejournal.com profile] dearlyderanged , who always gets roped into these things.

So, entirely without context (because I'm mean like that)

Expanda Partha (Patroclus) snippet. )

ruminations.

I'm 8k into my [livejournal.com profile] au_bigbang story. Which is a good thing, sure, but, well, I've barely got started, so, yeah.

I can't write things that are epic length, or at least I have never before. But, hey, I'm 8k in, and I've barely started, and I know exactly how the next 3k are going to fall out, and a fair idea of afterwards.

This is not to say I'm not terrified, because I really am, but it's a good terrified, maybe, I think.

This post makes no sense, I know.

In other news, I watched Bedrooms and Hallways, which is amazing, and stars Kevin McKidd and James Purefoy.

I've been making my way through Nrisingho Prasad Bhaduri's Mahabharat-er Prati Nayak, and have just finished the section on Eklavya.

which inspired a drabble.

in other news, 1k into [livejournal.com profile] au_bigbang.

AU_Bigbang

so I've gone and signed up for [livejournal.com profile] au_bigbang and will be writing The Iliad (or some of its events) set in nineteenth century India, after the 1857 Mutiny but before the formation of the Indian National Congress in 1885.

Names, as of now:

Agamemnon: Agastya.
Menelaus: Manoj.
Clytemnestra: Kalyani.
Helen: Hemangini.
Odysseus: Ullas (though this'll mean, possibly, that he's from a different region? idk.)
Penelope: Pratiksha.
Achilles: Akhilesh.
Patroclus: Pratap/Partha, still waffling.
Paris: Parimal.
Priam: Priyam (courtesy [personal profile] fireshowers )
Hector: Meghnad (working title, because, well, he is, subject to change)

more to come as inspiration strikes.

Expanddetails under the cut )

*breathes* Hold me? Also, can someone please beta for historical details (er, not that there will be many, but general screwing-up) and names/wording?
