The intent makes it worse. I think. A person can get beaten up for all kinds of reasons. But an intrinsic part of rape is control of the victim's mind as well as body. Humiliation and the raped person's feeling of violation is essential to the pleasure of the rapist's experience.

The intent is the scummy awful thing. The will to destroy, subjugate and damage, to permanently own a little bit of the raped person's mind. (It's theft, in fact, gaining power, invading psychological territory.) Honestly people suck.

I think it applies even if somewhat unsuccessful. The intent and expectation is there, even if the raped person's psychological response doesn't fit expectations.

Sorry you went through that. I do hope he fell under a bus at some point.
