She saw it for months, whenever she closed her eyes: the devastated forest, her uncle’s ribcage struggling to expand, Hidimba’s hand purple with lifeblood. She’s seeing it now again, as though enacted by some master of the trade, every dodge, every blow impossibly perfect, her brother struggling against a mortal.
