So I watched Endgame
with a very clappy, whistley crowd, all of whom--me very much included--howled and cackled our way through the big set-piece battle, which I though was better than anything post Ultron. I liked 75% of the film, which I think edges it into MCU Top Five for me, taking over from the first Avengers movie. I am also waiting for all the fic, but that's me after every bit of media I consume.
Everything under the cut is spoilery.
In conclusion, Team Cap for Life, yo! But also I find it... interesting that I have more emotions wrapped up in, like, Fury than in Bruce Banner, which is not how I expected it to go after Ragnarok.
Everything under the cut is spoilery.
- Tony's everything. This is the first film where I felt Tony was show-don't-tell more than a collection of quips, and I am ready to admit that the change of scale in his life + adorable Tiny Stark tipped the scale for me.
- Also, gods, RDJ really wrecking hearts in this, damn.
- Thor seeing his mother again!
- Also tbh I really love that Thor gets to stay fat throughout the film, and doesn't suddenly get groomed and ripped again; and his braids were A+
- But mostly "I was raised by witches, boy!" Frigga I love you, please come back in the Loki series.
- Steve saying Hail Hydra!
- Steve telling the Cap from that timeline that Bucky's alive, which... combined with the lack of Tesseract and Mind-stone is gonna fuck Hydra up faster, I'm guessing.
- Steve wielding Mjolnir and Thor's little 'I knew it' were amazing, as is the fact that in at least one timeline Mjolnir is Steve's weapon of choice; Thor and Steve fighting together will always be one of my favourite things.
- Steve getting a life with Peggy is also ♥ though I wonder what happens when the Steve Rogers native to that timeline shows up.
- Nat not being able to move on, and becoming the coordinator for the Avengers was lovely. She takes notes!
- Nat and Steve forever ♥ ♥ ♥
- I love all the battle-field reunions!
- I actually really loved the whole battle, which is rare for me, but it was so lovely to see everyone come back fighting! A++.
- And the relay-race with the gauntlet was a stunning bit of spontaneous teamwork.
- On that note, Carol Danvers, Breaker of Armies! I love that she's unimpressed by them, I love that she's an emergencies only collaborator, I love that she's their Tank.
- Peter Parker, you precious baby! Also gonna assume Ned and MJ and a buncha Peter's friends got Vanished with him, cause they're still in high school which doesn't make sense otherwise.
- Also also "Queens! Incoming" and then Peter swinging from Mjolnir, and subsequently getting passed hand to hand.
- Pepper as Rescue OMGosh, and also I think Tony wishes he'd taken her name when they got hitched, because.
- Sam and Bucky at the end ♥ I am waiting for their show so excitedly!
- I expect people who actually watched GotG got more out of the Gamora&Nebula moments, but I did rather like them regardless. Also liked Nebula and Rhodey pairing up.
- Black Panther 2, coming soon? Please?
- I have not watched the Antman films but I still very much loved Scott Lang's role.
- Valkyrie! I am so glad she's recognised for her role as leader of New Asgard.
- Will we ever get an All-Woman (plus optional Peter Parker) team? Because that glimpse of it was amaaazing. "She's got help." Yassss, queens.
- Why is Nat dead. Why isn't Clint dead. Agree it's ic for them to fight over it, but honestly. No.
- I am still violently unhappy about Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One
- The first explicitly queer person in the MCU.
- What even was with Clint's whole aesthetic?
- I would have liked Nat's death to be reflected in Clint>Steve>Sam>Bruce, which is not how it went.
- I am exceedingly confused by the Professor Hulk thing, but eh.
