I am too chickenshit to write proper shipboard AoS (what's the weather gauge again?)* I could see him getting dismissed the Service (perhaps unfairly) and becoming captain of a privateer (so essentially, his canon career, but backwards), sort of like Jack Aubrey in The Reverse of the Medal? I can't help seeing parallels between Ralph & Alec and Jack & Stephen.
