So, I've done this a couple of times, and it's brilliant fun. So.

Tell me about a fic (any fic) that I've never written, and I'll either write a little snippet of it, or tell you a bit about it. Applicable fandoms are in the tags, but feel free to ask about something that isn't listed but you know I've some familiarity with.

OR

If you want, here are my fics on AO3, feel free to ask about any of them. Not everything I've written is up there. however.

So when I read Ursula le Guin last year, I was fascinated by the idea of sedoretus, but I was also insanely busy and/or depressed at the time, so I didn't get fannishly engaged, other than a brief notion that it made Potter simultaneously easier to ship and incredibly creepier. Then, today I found [personal profile] melannen's post on group-marriages, and, well, right post at the right time, because now all I can think about are sedoretus. In all my fandoms, please. Pretty please.

Arthurian Mythology, which has to be done across generations. )

What else, what else? It doesn't work with the Alexandriad, except it does when Alexander and Hephaistion marry Darius' daughters, who needn't be of the same moiety, but even that's wobbly. Works excellently and creepily with Wuthering Heights, actually. And of course there's the Vorkosigan Saga, which a lot of incredibly dedicated people have drawn charts and family-trees for, on [personal profile] melannen's post and elsewhere. Oh, oh, and Hysteria, I'm almost certain it works there.

tl;dr: I've gone mad and am charting my fandoms to new relationship-styles.

a.k.a. comment here with the name of any fictional woman you believe me conversant with, (the fandoms this is tagged with all apply.)
and I'll either write a drabble about her, or at least talk about why she strikes me as wonderful.

I'm off to the Book Fair. Ta, all.

I wrote over a hundred fics last year, here and elsewhere. (elsewhere being [livejournal.com profile] maryrenaultfics, [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, and [livejournal.com profile] fandomcommerce.) *happy*

Now to start off the count for 2010. Prompts, anyone? In a drabbling mood. Fandoms are anything in the tags. (Or, alternatively, anything I can read up on, or am likely to know.)
toujours_nigel: BFT (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] yuletide  reveals are up, I see.

So, I wrote Some Man's Scheherazade for [livejournal.com profile] easilymused1956, and I whined and moaned about it on g-talk to everyone who would hear (esp. [livejournal.com profile] 22by7 and [livejournal.com profile] dearlyderanged) because I was having some species of writers' block and, also, omg, hard. However, she liked it, which makes me happy, and I liked it, which surprised me.

And I wrote, for treats:

O that you were yourself! (Shakespeare in Love) for [livejournal.com profile] aurilly,
Pinjre Mein Chand (Kaminey) for [livejournal.com profile] applegnat,
Crying Blood for Vengeance (Iliad) for skazka (who I cannot trace)
Dasrathi (Ramayana) for [livejournal.com profile] steelehearts
Panch Kanya (Ibis trilogy) for [livejournal.com profile] dhobikikutti .

Excellent haul, if I say so myself. *radiates smugness*

Utterly beaten by the gift I got, though: Pyrrha, which is Fire from Heaven Alexander, and made me catch my breath, quite.

I've had a rotten couple days, but better now. Hopefully 2010 will be better than this last year.

Dear Yuletide Author, )

***

Feel free to write something entirely different if you’d rather, of course, these are just off the top of my head, (as is everything in the requests themselves) and do not in any way indicate that I must have a story along these lines. I’ll appreciate anything you write. Thank you.
toujours_nigel: Dali (procrastination)
I am on AOOO, here. Well, have been a while, but now I'm trying to upload stories. What fun.

What should I do with the stuff on [livejournal.com profile] scenes_of_lives? That's pretty huge, and complete, i.e., the main stories are done, I was padding out the universe, not something I'm likely to finish, but it's done, unlike, say, [livejournal.com profile] hermioneregis.

As of now, planning to post my Potter one-shots, the few Kaminey stories I've finished, and the ones on [livejournal.com profile] maryrenaultfics. And, I suppose, the various drabbles that are a bit fannishly scattered.

Procrastinating on [livejournal.com profile] yuletide? Who, me?

***

Also, this is what I've been waiting for, since I first stumbled upon The Iliad, lo, these many years ago.
toujours_nigel: (writer)
So, because I am bored, I asked for prompts, and [livejournal.com profile] applegnat left me, 'Charlie, coping' and 'Charlie and Guddu, friends'. This. Is not the response to that. Well, in a way.

Right. So that happened. Anyhoo, if you want me writing you an opposite-drabble, whatever that is, comment?

i particularly love Shumon's 'wtf is wrong with that boy' expression.

and, aw, charlie hadn't quite accepted that mikhail was dead. tch.
toujours_nigel: (omgewwww)

So, um. this. requires explanation. So, yeah, this is me and [livejournal.com profile] applegnat last evening.

me:
i want to write gender-flip

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : good

me: except i'd land up without a story to write.

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : who'd be flipping?

me: idk. if i flip charlie, he'll have no access to Mikhail. if i flip Mikhail charlie'd be beaten up and stuffed into a trunk somewhere. mikhail flipped (as a friend told me when i whined at her) is basically sweety.

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : hmm. he's a good deal less -- goal-oriented.

me: yeah and more attached to his brothers but, i mean

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : i mean, you can bet that if sweety were flogging coke worth 10 crores she'd have got it done in the time it took for bhope to eat a vada pav

me: the whole beloved baby girl of crime family deal

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : yeah, but at least she hasn't been coddled into – death or fuifide, as mikhail would say. LOL

me: yeah

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : girl charlie might be interesting

me: doesn't it cut down on the very physically intimidating thing, though

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : look the basic problem is that a girl of charlie's social aptitude and economic status wouldn't be doing charlie's work. as a rule.

me: yeah

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : you can't be a controller, even if you can be a don. i don't want to enforce the sterotype that girls with charlie's social aptitude and economic handicaps would be pulling tricks if they were into crime. quite realistically, though, it's difficult for them to do anything else.

me: no, i know. i thought, and then i thought, well, prostitute. and then i stopped wanting to write that

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : well, it's entirely possible that mikhail happens to be charlie's only john

me: because i like happy!Charlie. um. how periclean of him. but what a bad Aphasia she'd make (by which I meant Aspasia, but eh)

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : besides, happiness and prostitution aren't mutually exclusive - not in the least trying to diminish the horrors of sex work etc

me: no, i guess, but, thing is i can't think of Mikhail as idk, caring enough?

[livejournal.com profile] applegnat : aw, young men are generally assholes. but i'm sure he's capable of affection, even concern. in an AU you can explore those avenues.

*** *** ***

this, therefore, is me, exploring those avenues )

This is sadly small, *sigh* because, well, I want to get to the good part and this should be longer, but somehow I can't quite fit it together, blah.

Anyway.

This story is:
a) not mine.
b) slashy.
c) rated R.
d) post-film.
e) AU.
f) following directly from this.
g) proving to be longer than I'd thought.

in which our hero is forcibly cuddled and also made to grope a pregnant woman. )

So I went trolling for Kaminey icons ([personal profile] applegnathaving provided the links) and I really liked them. However. There were no Charlie/Mikhail icons. Indeed, there weren't any Mikhail icons at all. So, well, this being me, and me liking slash, and having nothing else to do (for which I shall pay next weekend, oh my), I sat through and capped all the Charlie/Mikhail bits of the film (yeah, poor dear me, right?) and realised, among other things, that it's very difficult to get a decent frame without them both in it. I am not kidding, I didn't look through these to find the stuff I iconned.( Now, a clear print, otoh)

So, anyway, anyhow, now that you're all so very entranced by this explanation, the second lot of Kaminey icons, ta-ra.

As usual, taking is all good, credit is nice but not needed, and hotlinking makes Charlie burn cocaine, as on his lover's metaphorical funeral pyre.

15 icons, Charlie/Mikhail )

Expect a Sweety-Guddu batch, sometime. Krishna knows when.
toujours_nigel: Greek, red-figure Rhea (Rhea)
I'm reading Maurice while my parents watch Kaminey, get confused by the plot and attempt to confirm which twin is which. I am insanely amused by this.

In other news, today I got shouted at by the uni bookstore owner, hung around with one of my very cool seniors, and gorged on a tea-shake with brownies and vanilla icercream. omnomnom.

In yet other news, the Macdeath project is over, and [livejournal.com profile] fireshowers deserves something of an award, for having stayed up 24 hours straight to accomplish this.

That is all.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] applegnat has written up a Kaminey pimp-post, for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and general info, so maybe y'all should go take a look.

That really is it.

Ta.

So today this woman came up to me and asked at length:

(a) Whether  I was in English Hons;
(b) Which year I was in;
(c) What tuitions I took;
(d) Ditto for classmates;
(e) Which teachers tutor privately.

We eventually fed her to Grendel, but he just got confused, and she, sadly didn't get dissuaded. tch. If only the White Knight had been around, too.

So, anyway, I've purchased the Kaminey DVD, yay!

And I lovelovelove how easily the auto-contrast in Photoshop makes the very dark snaps I lift much easier on the eye. *missed iconning*

here be the first few icons )

Credit is nice, free-for-all, hotlinking is a terrible thing.

More soon.
