 Because we are precisely these people, filia_noctis and I stayed up till four last night (one of very few days she's here) discussing the plot and dynamics for a Hephaistion/Bagoas(/Alexander) fic.

So, uh, it's safe to say I'm active in Renault fic again.

 Writing [current-fic] is making me realise how much I dislike the indifference Bagoas meets from every "good" Macedonian he encounters. I understand the Doylist reasons, but it remains infuriating from a Watsonian perspective. Bagoas isn't a noblewoman in purdah, he's a fifteen year-old boy-ish who starts living in an invading army. He is even allowed some intial overtures of social contact, but only until he becomes Alexander's lover, and then nothing. It is not, after all, as though none of Alexander's friends had mistresses whom Bagoas could have befriended, or contacts of his own in the royal household and at court. Instead, in the most constricting of rom-com tropes, his entire world shrinks to Alexander and whatever other connections he has are presented as hostile, trivial, or only present in moments of crisis (the young guard who he goes with at Roxane's wedding, who later gets a line when they've survived the desert). ffs he has more friends while one of Darius' things.
