I am on Dreamwidth. I haven't looked around yet, but I will. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] deepad for the code, and [livejournal.com profile] fireshowers for the information thereof.

Now, we were supposed to meet and talk about Kinaara, but, ha ha, best laid plans and that, so [livejournal.com profile] fireshowers should be dropping in at some point and we'll talk and study (yes, I have a Human Rights exam day after next, and I know absolutely zilch).

Because I've been talking about it a bit, and will talk more, it's only fair to give a proper introduction to Kinaara. The official blurbs are scattered elsewhere, but, really, informally, Kinaara is an online South Asian youth magazine that [livejournal.com profile] fireshowers , I and the Gayboy (notinawoman'sbody) have been planning for the last few months. It's finally taking shape. We have a logo, we have trustees of a sort, we have a blog and an lj and a Facebook group and a mail id and apparently a lot of people who are at least marginally interested in it. We also, thank you, whichever divinity is taking out time to pay us attention, have a few contributions for our first issue, and more than half-a-month to deadline and a month after that to publication.

So, yeah, I'd say that it's beginning to go well. dw is an inspiration, and what we would love to grow up to become, in spirit, though not in form. I've never don anything like this. I'm introverted, I'm prickly, I'm arrogant, I don't play well. And I'm sure there's a lot of ranting and screaming ahead of us. But we have started, and hopefully, we'll go on.

Kinaara is an experiment of sorts, and the culmination of much plotting and planning and tearing of hair. Kinaara, to be somewhat more formal, is an upcoming online magazine for the South Asian youth and diaspora, concerned with literature and culture, and in discussions and depictions thereof.

The Facebook group  is where team members are likely to be most active, and this journal is also a place where news of Kinaara and updates on the work being done by members is going to be posted, and bears watching.

We will post the first edition of Kinaara on 01.07.2009. The permanant address of the magazine will be revealed at the time.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR::

- Original, exciting and thought-provoking work from people below 30 with a South Asian connection.

- Anything that makes our brains tingle! Essays, articles, poetry, short stories, comics, photo essays, artwork, ramblings, a standalone chapter from the novel you're writing... If you think the world needs to see it, we're interested in it.

- If you have a work or idea that doesn't fit any of the above categories, write to us directly and we'll get back to you.

UPCOMING EDITIONS::

JULY 2009: No theme, everything welcome. Deadline is June 15.

AUGUST 2009: Tentative theme is CONFLICT. Interpret broadly, as long as you remember the focus. Deadline is July 15.

HOW TO SUBMIT::

- For now, we are receiving all correspondence at kinaaramail@gmail.com.

- Writing is best sent as an MS Word (.doc) or Text (.txt) document. If it isn't too long, pasting in the mail body works too.

- Images are loved as JPEG (.jpg) files that don't exceed the size of 500 kbs each.

- Mention your name as you'd like to be credited. Add a two-sentence introduction to yourself. We're interested in knowing where you're from and what you like doing, but you're free to fill your introduction with anything you want to tell.
