“Lucius.” He turns, though it's entirely unnecessary.
“James.” Voice even and polite, though it hurts—odd, that—to have him witness this.
“What are you doing?” Dark circles under eyes, voice ragged—boy’s been orphaned some weeks ago, and it shows.
“Giving my father the most tastelessly opulent funeral I can. It’s the least he deserves.”
“Lucius. I know.”
“Learnt to spot poisons at the Academy?”
“Lucius. He was your father.” Says the word like it should mean something.
“James. She would have been my daughter.” Low, savage. “He killed her.”
Stumbles away, wordless, before he can condone the crime.
